Last month National Geographic Brazil released its special edition about waste management in Brazil.

The special release presented basic facts about the waste collection and treatment practices applied in Brazil but special emphasis was put on the fast increasing waste generation per capita rates of big urban centers of Brazil, like São Paulo, a rate that is double compared to other rates of emerging countries as India.

According to Antonis Mavropoulos, CEO of D-Waste and STC Chair of ISWA, “what should interest Brazil is how consumer trends will evolve in the future, since waste generation increases at the same rate with the purchasing power of the population”.
