D-Waste Supporting “Clean Hands” initiative

cleanhands

On Saturday, 25th of April, D-Waste attended the official opening of the "Clean Hands" premises in Athens.

“Clean Hands” is a non-profit organization started its activity in 2012 on the island of Kos, based on the idea that in a period of deep crisis and recession there is need only for food but also for basic sanitary items and is the only licensed soap recycling company in Greece. Collecting soap residues from hotels and after proper processing and microbiological testing, and transforming them into new soaps, offer to vulnerable social groups, as in developing countries by protecting their health. Besides the social impact, the above process is a serious energy environmental protection, because it reduces the volume of municipal waste and utilizes 100% recyclable materials such as soaps, which would otherwise end up in landfills and will affect long subsoil and the ecosystem.

D-Waste, is in close cooperation with “Clean Hands” supporting their activities and integrating recycling of soaps in waste management programs for hotels. So far the program has been implemented in more than 100 hotels around Greece and the numbers are expected to further increase in 2015.
