On the occasion of the celebration of The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) between 16-24 November 2013 D-Waste realized iOS application Waste C-Control (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/waste-c-control-tool/id740556113?mt=8).

This is the 5th year of EWWR and the aim of the week is to raise awareness of ways to minimise our waste produced across Europe.

Waste C-Control is a tool that assist decision - makers to design and evaluate different integrated waste management systems from the level of waste generation up to the level of waste treatment and disposal on the basis of overall Greenhouse emissions and management cost. The investigation of different waste management alternatives is performed through mathematical programming, the outcome of which is the identification of those integrated systems where their overall GHG emissions can be reduced only at the expense of management cost. In other words, the tool assists the user to build the so-called ‘Pareto frontier’ in the particular situation faced.

This is a joint project between EPEM SA (Environmental Planning, Engineering and Management), the Waste Management Authority of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (DIAAMATH), the Waste Management System of Western Macedonia (DIADYMA) and the Trans-Municipal Enterprise of Solid Waste Management of Chania (DEDISA). The project is LIFE funded.
